We did not lose power last night. We have 2+ feet of drifted snow,
and we're due to get at least 6 more inches. We practice incremental
clearing (shoveling 6 inches of snow 4 times during a storm is much
easier than waiting until it over and trying to move 24 inches in one
go...). But it just came down too fast last night. We went to bed
with clear sidewalks and steps and woke up with this mess. According
to the news, we got 2-3 inches of snow an hour overnight. Sebastian is the same age I was during the Blizzard of '78.
Sebastian's only been up for 2.5 hours, but in that time, I've gained
a heck of a lot more respect for my patents and the parents if my
childhood friends. It must have been terrible. I don't remember
much, but apparently we didn't have power (and therefore heat) for
over a week. We stayed with neighbors, everyone sleeping in a
basement rec room that had a wood burning fire. The little bit I
remember is of a rather fun adventure with Buono family. I can't
imagine how hard our it was on all of the adults. Sebastian has already asked to leave the house and go in the car.
Given that our car is the tiny sliver of blue you can see in this
photo, that isn't going to happen anytime soon.
