Some technical work

I know, I know, we're behind on posting updates.

Posterous our previous blog provider has decided to exit the blogging business and we've been working on migrating Sebastian's blog elsewhere. We've finally found a good place for it, and once the dust settles we'll commence posting updates once again!

Cooking!

Sebastian really enjoys cooking. A few times a week we make domething
together. Last night, I asked him to help me make sweet potato
muffins (new recipe - not a winner, but we had great success with a
new peanut butter cookie recipe on Saturday).

Tonight, when he got home from school he dragged his red chair across
the room, got out some bowls and measuring cups and asked for cooking.

My no-plan go to recipe is generally chocolate chip cookies. I'm
pretty sure I could make them in my sleep. Sebastian generally spills
some flour, so I have to guesstimate how much he has spilled and add
that amount. It helps to work with a recipe I know well.

Blizzard Update

We did not lose power last night. We have 2+ feet of drifted snow,
and we're due to get at least 6 more inches. We practice incremental
clearing (shoveling 6 inches of snow 4 times during a storm is much
easier than waiting until it over and trying to move 24 inches in one
go...). But it just came down too fast last night. We went to bed
with clear sidewalks and steps and woke up with this mess. According
to the news, we got 2-3 inches of snow an hour overnight.

Sebastian is the same age I was during the Blizzard of '78.
Sebastian's only been up for 2.5 hours, but in that time, I've gained
a heck of a lot more respect for my patents and the parents if my
childhood friends. It must have been terrible. I don't remember
much, but apparently we didn't have power (and therefore heat) for
over a week. We stayed with neighbors, everyone sleeping in a
basement rec room that had a wood burning fire. The little bit I
remember is of a rather fun adventure with Buono family. I can't
imagine how hard our it was on all of the adults.

Sebastian has already asked to leave the house and go in the car.
Given that our car is the tiny sliver of blue you can see in this
photo, that isn't going to happen anytime soon.
